Whether you're a seasoned residency program or just starting, this event provides the tools and inspiration to enhance your efforts in recruiting, training, and retaining quality educators within your community.
Day 1 Featured Speaker
Mary Vixie Sandy serves as the Executive Director of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. As a policy leader with more than 25 years' experience working in higher education and government, she currently oversees public policy related to educator preparation and licensing and directs an agency that awards over 250,000 credential documents per year and accredits more than 250 colleges, universities and local education agencies offering educator preparation programs. Her professional focus is on building the capacity of teachers, leaders, public schools and communities to meet the needs of California's diverse student body.
Day 2 Spotlight Speaker
Rebecca Hatkoff, PhD, is a consultant, researcher, teacher, California apologist, and freedom dreamer. Through Possibilities Unbound, she collaborates with districts, teacher preparation programs, nonprofits, and community organizations to develop reciprocal partnerships, love-soaked practices, and humanizing systems that serve and honor students, educators, and communities. She also supports the Thompson Policy Institute for Disability.
As Director of Teacher Education at Claremont Graduate University (2023–25), Rebecca launched five teacher residency partnerships co-designed as enduring infrastructure for districts and teacher preparation programs. Through her former consultancy Joyful Disruption, she provided PD across LA County, including working with 1,000+ educators in LAUSD's Community Schools Initiative.
Rebecca is white, queer, Jewish, and a solo parent to a radiant three-year-old.
Join Mary Vixie Sandy, Executive Director of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, as she shares a statewide perspective on residencies as a strategic approach to strengthening and sustaining the educator workforce.
Complementing this vision, Rebecca Hatkoff of Possibilities Unbound will bring the concept to life through compelling, real-world examples that demonstrate the impact of residency in practice.
She’ll be joined by special guests from the Sacramento County Office of Education Teacher Residency Program—Mentor Devin Farren, and Residents Kellyn Malek and Ricki Hall—who will share firsthand insights from the field.
From big-picture vision to on-the-ground impact, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.
